About the British Larder
The British Larder was created in 2008 by Madalene Bonvini-Hamel (Maddy) and Ross Pike (aka Mr.P). The first few years during the developing and infancy stages of the British Larder it’s mainly been Maddy project whilst Ross was earning a living. Maddy has taken up photography, and with a real interest and desire to try and perfect it, photography became a slight obsession. It gave her the opportunity to capture the food through the eye of a professional chef instead of a professional photographer.
The British Larder is a recipe diary that is written, trialled and tested by two professional chef and self-confessed food fanatics. It’s been specially created for likeminded foodies who’d like to expand their repertoires and share their cookery tips with others.
The recipes mainly feature British seasonal produce; however, this won’t stop them from writing about food, ingredients and recipes inspired by their travels. They believe that their cooking style is contemporary British and take inspiration from the combination and amalgamation of all the different cultures culinary influences coming together here in Britain.
The idea for the British Larder stemmed from the amount of times that people have asked them both for either recipes or recommendations and it has evolved due to their curiosity, passion and dream to share their culinary knowledge with likeminded individuals.
The British Larder gives Maddy and Ross the opportunity to write about all the food they love and the culinary discoveries that they have make along their way, whether it would be about the latest in season ingredients, restaurant, an inspirational chef, an outstanding food producer, a well written cookbook or a useful and well designed gadget.
As food has taken over their lives, it means that everything they do is related to food and cooking. The British Larder is a journey through Maddy and Ross’s careers and a tribute to all the blood, sweat and tears that have been shed during the past 18 years.
After great success with the British Larder website, Maddy and Mr.P decided to turn their virtual dream (The British Larder) from clicks to bricks. They gave their website a real culinary home and on the 6th of August 2010 the doors opens to the British Larder, Suffolk. The British Larder Suffolk has become an award winning pub in the heart of Suffolk. Within the first year they have won Best Gastro Pub East Anglia 2011 with the Morning Advertiser and the Publican. In September 2011 The British Larder Suffolk has won the Taste England Award at the Suffolk Tourism Awards 2011. Being only one of 13 new entries in the Good Food Guide 2011 which has lead Ross to been selected for ITV’s program Britain’s Best Dish. The British Larder also found to have been the Michelin Inspectors favourite in the Michelin Pub Guide 2011. All in all 2011 has been a successful year for the British Larder Suffolk.
