Hi Julie, If you live in England you should be able to find stem ginger at a large supermarket. I live in a small town and found it twice at both Waitrose and Tesco, look for it in the home baking department, it comes in a small glass jar.

Looks, and sounds, great. I had honey and ginger ice cream for the first time at the weekend and it was fantastic.

Looks delicious! Being only a mildly educated Yankee I have to aks, what denotes “stem” ginger from the ginger root I buy from the market?

Stem ginger is root ginger that is preserved in a sweet syrup in jars. Taste is still gingery but leans itself to sweet dishes rather than the savoury dishes that is best for the fresh root ginger.
